Deport, Texas - #2 | November 2006 |
|
I went back for another 4 days. I just couldn't stay away from the Chicken-fried steaks!
McCartney had picked a nice level field, about 15 acres, low grass. We started on the far side, and worked our way towards the location of the find from my 1st trip (F9).
On the 1st day, I dug about 30 signals, mostly small pieces of wire. We were still close to the old fence. The ground was not as wet and the holes were quite shallow, less that 18".
We were joined by Justin on day two, and now we were really killing off the acres. McCartney flagged the signals with the big 3x1 meter coil, I pin-pointed the location, and Justin got to dig it up. Perfect division of labour! We found a number of items, such as more wire, a pocket knife, tractor parts and tools. Lot's of rust!
Day three was just more of the same.
On day four we had almost reached the spot where we had left off on my previous trip, with maybe one acre to go. We were a bit demoralized after having dug so many holes without any meteorite finds. Justin was already cleaning up some gear, and I was digging the last few targets.
This hole is different, the target is deeper than all the other junk that we pulled out of the ground. I call McCartney and Justin over, and Justin gets to do the honours. He pulls a 2.5kg Deport iron out of the ground. He used a very colorful expression to share his joy, ask me about it some time...
Well, for me, that's 2 for 2 in Deport! A short clip of the discovery |

Is that a signal?
